bexio alternative

A cheaper bexio alternative for Swiss solopreneurs

bexio is built for SMEs with employees, double-entry books and a Treuhänder on retainer. If you are one person invoicing a handful of clients, you are buying a suite sized for a company you do not have — and paying CHF 504 a year for the plan that actually does what you need day to day.

Below: what bexio costs at list price, which features its entry plan leaves out, what SoloLedger gives you instead, and — honestly — when you should stay exactly where you are.

Full disclosure: SoloLedger is our own product. Every line about a competitor is limited to what their public pages actually stated when we checked, and further down we say plainly where SoloLedger is the wrong tool for you.

What it costs, at list price

From bexio's own pricing page, checked on 29 July 2026. These are list prices, not the current promotion.

PlanPer monthPer year
bexio BasicCHF 35CHF 420
bexio AdvancedCHF 42CHF 504
SoloLedger standardCHF 20CHF 200
SoloLedger early bird (first 100 subscribers)CHF 10CHF 100

bexio's pricing page currently shows first-year promotional prices (−40% with the code bx40, running until 31 July 2026). We quote bexio's list prices, because that is what you pay from the second year on.

Prices and features checked on 29 July 2026 on each vendor's own website. Vendors change their pricing — confirm on their site before you subscribe.

The part the price table does not put in bold

bexio Basic at CHF 35 a month looks like the plan for a one-person business. It is not the plan that does the work. On Basic there is no E-Banking, no expense module, no receipt AI and no document archive, and payroll is listed as not available. Everything a solopreneur does daily — photograph a receipt, match a bank line, file the document — starts at Advanced.

Realistic entry point: bexio Advanced, CHF 504 a year at list price — about 2.5× SoloLedger's standard CHF 200 a year.

What you get instead

SoloLedger is not a smaller bexio. It is a different shape.

Your ledger lives in your own Google Sheets and your receipts in your own Drive. Cancel the subscription and the books are still yours, in a file you can open.

Canton-aware tax and AVS/AHV estimates, with a set-aside panel that tells you how much of today's payment is not yours to spend.

Gemini reads your receipts — with no monthly scan quota to ration.

Swiss QR-bill invoicing, bank CSV import and matching, expense charts and projections, and a year-end optimisation checklist.

A Treuhänder export pack and full XLSX export, in German, French, Italian and English.

When you should stay on bexio

Saving CHF 300 a year is a bad trade if you need any of this.

  • You have employees. bexio has payroll in its range; SoloLedger has none at all.
  • You need double-entry bookkeeping — because your revenue is above CHF 500'000, because you run a GmbH or an AG, or because your Treuhänder requires it. SoloLedger keeps a single-entry ledger for the simple regime and nothing more.
  • Your Treuhänder already works in bexio. A shared file they know beats CHF 300 of savings plus a migration.
  • You want the direct bank connection, stock management or the wider range of modules. That is bexio's territory, not ours.

The honest limits of SoloLedger

Things bexio does not fix for you either way, but which you should know before switching.

  • No double-entry bookkeeping — a single-entry ledger, for businesses in the simple sub-CHF-500'000 regime.
  • No payroll. If you employ anyone, this is not the tool.
  • Bank data arrives as a CSV import with automatic matching, not as a live bank connection.
  • A Google account is required — your ledger is a Google Sheet and your receipts sit in your own Drive.
  • A web app rather than a native one, and a 7-day trial rather than a free plan.

bexio alternative — frequently asked questions

Is SoloLedger really cheaper than bexio?

At list prices, yes: CHF 200 a year against CHF 420 for bexio Basic and CHF 504 for Advanced, the plan that includes the bank connection, expenses and receipt AI. For that realistic comparison it is about 2.5×. bexio's site is currently showing a −40% first-year promotion (code bx40, until 31 July 2026), so the first year is closer together; the list price is what you pay from the second year on.

Can I move my bexio data to SoloLedger?

There is no one-click bexio migration. In practice you export your data from bexio, keep that export as your archive for closed years, and start the SoloLedger ledger from your current balances. Bank statements come in as CSV from then on.

Does SoloLedger do double-entry bookkeeping like bexio?

No. SoloLedger keeps a single-entry ledger, which is what the Swiss rules expect below CHF 500'000 of revenue. If you need doppelte Buchhaltung, stay on bexio.

What about payroll and salaries?

SoloLedger has no payroll at all. If you pay salaries — including your own out of a GmbH — you need bexio or a dedicated payroll tool alongside.

Does SoloLedger connect to my bank the way bexio Advanced does?

Not directly. You export a CSV from your e-banking and SoloLedger matches the lines against your invoices and expenses. bexio's E-Banking starts on Advanced; Basic does not include it.

Where is my data if I cancel?

In your own Google account. The ledger is a Google Sheet in your Drive and the receipts are files beside it, so cancelling ends the subscription, not your access to the books. A full XLSX export is available at any time.
