Six accounting tools that Swiss solopreneurs and small companies actually shortlist, compared on what decides the choice: the yearly price, how transactions reach the books, whether receipts are read automatically, and whether you get double-entry bookkeeping and payroll.

bexio — the full SME suite
bexio is the reference for Swiss SMEs: double-entry bookkeeping, a broad range of modules and a large Treuhänder network. The catch for a one-person business is the entry plan. Basic (CHF 35 / month list, CHF 420 / year) has no E-Banking, no expense module and no receipt AI, so the realistic plan is Advanced at CHF 42 / month list — CHF 504 a year, about 2.5× SoloLedger's standard CHF 200.

Milkee markets itself explicitly to Einzelfirmen and starts at CHF 24.90 / month excl. VAT (CHF 298.80 / year), about 1.5× SoloLedger's standard price. Two limits matter: the Basic plan covers the VAT Saldo method only, without double-entry bookkeeping, and receipt scanning is capped at 120 to 300 scans a year depending on plan. The site is German only — the French, Italian and English routes returned 404 when we checked.
Magic Heidi — invoicing with native apps
Magic Heidi is an invoicing and expense tool with five native apps and a free plan limited to three invoices and three expenses. Everything beyond that is CHF 299 a year, roughly 1.5× SoloLedger's standard price. It targets sole proprietors below CHF 500'000 of revenue and, like SoloLedger, has no double-entry bookkeeping and no payroll — and no Treuhänder module either.
KLARA — modules for growing SMEs
KLARA's Business Basic plan is CHF 55 / month on yearly billing excl. VAT — CHF 660 a year, about 3.3× SoloLedger's standard price — with modules metered on top: payroll at CHF 4.90 per payslip, inventory from CHF 29 / month. That buys a broad suite if you have employees and stock. If you are one person invoicing clients, you are paying for surface you will never open. On the public pages we could confirm a 30-day trial; treat any free-tier claim you read elsewhere with care.
Banana — the cheapest ledger, on your desktop
Banana is genuinely cheaper than SoloLedger: free up to 70 transactions, CHF 89 a year for Professional, CHF 179 for Advanced with the Swiss VAT return (incl. VAT). We are not going to pretend otherwise. What you trade for the price is the desktop model — a personal licence for your own devices, no bank feed, and support billed at CHF 70 per 30 minutes. A cloud ledger you can open from your phone, with receipt OCR and bank matching, is the difference you are paying for.
Where SoloLedger is not for you
Every tool above beats SoloLedger at something. Here is when you should pick one of them instead.
- You need double-entry bookkeeping. SoloLedger keeps a simple single-entry ledger, which fits the Swiss regime for businesses under CHF 500'000 of revenue. Above that, or if your Treuhänder insists on doppelte Buchhaltung, choose bexio, KLARA or Banana.
- You have employees. There is no payroll in SoloLedger — no payslips, no staff declarations. KLARA and bexio cover that.
- You want your bank to sync itself. SoloLedger imports and matches bank CSV files; it holds no direct connection to your bank. bexio's Advanced plan does.
- You would rather not use a Google account. SoloLedger keeps your ledger in your own Google Sheets and your receipts in your own Drive — that is the point of the product, but it does mean a Google account is required.
- You want a native app. SoloLedger is a web app that works in a mobile browser; Magic Heidi ships five native apps.
- You want a permanent free plan. SoloLedger has a 7-day trial, the shortest in this list. Magic Heidi and Banana both keep a limited free tier.
Simple books, CHF 200 a year
If your business is one person, a laptop and a bank account, SoloLedger keeps the books, reads your receipts and estimates your canton taxes — on your own Google Sheets. CHF 200 a year, or CHF 100 for the first 100 subscribers.
