Milkee alternative

A Milkee alternative in four languages

Milkee is a Swiss accounting app aimed at Einzelfirmen, and its Basic plan is the one priced for a one-person business. SoloLedger is a simple accounting app for Swiss solopreneurs and small companies that does the same daily job for CHF 200 a year — in German, French, Italian and English.

Below: what Milkee costs at list price, where its Basic plan stops, what SoloLedger does instead, and — honestly — when Milkee is the better buy.

Full disclosure: SoloLedger is our own product. Every line about a competitor is limited to what their public pages actually stated when we checked, and further down we say plainly where SoloLedger is the wrong tool for you.

Where the Basic plan stops

Milkee Basic is the plan a solopreneur would buy, and it is also where the limits sit: VAT by the net tax rate method (Saldosteuersatz) only, no double-entry bookkeeping, and receipt scanning capped at 120 scans a year — unlimited scanning starts on the Team tier. The site itself is German only: the French, Italian and English routes returned 404 when we checked.

Milkee Basic: CHF 298.80 a year excluding VAT, in German only — roughly 1.5× SoloLedger's CHF 200, which ships in German, French, Italian and English.

What you get instead

SoloLedger is not a translated Milkee. It is a different shape.

Your ledger lives in your own Google Sheets and your receipts in your own Drive. Cancel the subscription and the books are still yours, in a file you can open.

Safe to spend: what this year's profit really leaves you once AVS and income tax are parked — plus an AVS reality check comparing your instalments against what the year actually owes.

Gemini reads your receipts, with no yearly scan quota to ration.

The whole app in German, French, Italian and English, with canton-aware tax estimates, Swiss QR-bill invoicing and a Treuhänder export pack.

When you should choose Milkee

Paying about CHF 100 more a year is a good trade if you need any of this.

  • You want your bank to feed the books by itself. Milkee pulls your bookings once a day; SoloLedger imports and matches a CSV you export.
  • You work in German anyway and want a German-speaking Swiss vendor. The language gap only costs you something if you need the other three.
  • You need double-entry bookkeeping or the effective VAT method. Milkee has both further up its range; SoloLedger keeps single-entry books and has no plan above.
  • You want AI that books your bank transactions for you. Milkee advertises that; SoloLedger matches lines to invoices and expenses but leaves the posting to you.

The honest limits of SoloLedger

Worth knowing before you switch, whichever tool you end up with.

  • No double-entry bookkeeping — a single-entry ledger, for businesses in the simple sub-CHF-500'000 regime.
  • No payroll. If you employ anyone, this is not the tool.
  • Bank data arrives as a CSV import with automatic matching, not as a live bank connection — this is the row where Milkee is ahead.
  • A Google account is required, it is a web app rather than a native one, and there is a 7-day trial rather than a free plan.

Milkee alternative — frequently asked questions

Is SoloLedger cheaper than Milkee?

Yes, at list price. Milkee Basic is CHF 24.90 a month excluding VAT on annual billing — CHF 298.80 a year — against CHF 200 for SoloLedger, or CHF 100 for the first 100 subscribers. Paying Milkee monthly raises it to CHF 29.90 a month.

Is Milkee available in French or Italian?

Not as far as we could see. When we checked on 31 July 2026, milkee.ch served German, and the French, Italian and English routes returned 404. SoloLedger runs in all four languages, including the invoices you send.

Can I use effective-method VAT on Milkee Basic?

No — Milkee's Basic plan covers the net tax rate method (Saldosteuersatz) only, and the effective method starts on the Business tier. SoloLedger supports both, with one approved net rate in this version.

How many receipts can I scan?

Milkee Basic includes 120 receipt scans a year, and unlimited scanning only on the Team tier. SoloLedger uses Gemini with no per-scan quota — you bring your own free Google AI key.

What does the AVS reality check actually do?

It compares what your provisional AVS instalments assume you earn against what your paid invoices imply, and tells you what to park each month. That matters because the definitive settlement usually arrives about two years later, and instalments more than 25% below the definitive contributions attract 5% retroactive interest (Art. 41bis AHVV). The same calculation is on our public tax calculator, without an account.
