2026 is the first year you can buy back a Pillar 3a gap (2025). Pay the full 2026 contribution first, then buy in up to CHF 7'258 extra — both fully deductible. Requires a written application to your 3a foundation.

Contribute the maximum to your Pillar 3a account before Dec 31. This amount is fully deductible from taxable income.

As a self-employed person without a 2nd pillar, you can contribute up to 20% of net income (capped). This is the single most impactful deduction.

If your expenses are below ~40% of revenue, the flat-rate method (taux de dette fiscale nette) often saves money vs. effective method. Review annually.

Official figures and deadlines — Canton Geneva
Tax multiplier (canton and capital)
Geneva works in centimes additionnels, not percentages: the LIPP scale gives a base tax, the canton adds 48.5 centimes (47.5 plus 1 for home care), the LDIRPP rebate of 12% is deducted from the cantonal part only, and the communal centimes come on top. The city of Geneva charges 45.49 centimes for 2026, unchanged since 2019, against a cantonal average of 41.01.
Tax return filing deadline
The filing deadline is 31 March, the same for employees and self-employed people.
Deadline extension
Extensions are paid and tiered: CHF 20 for up to three months, CHF 40 for up to five months and CHF 60 beyond that. You can request them online or by phone until 31 October; in November and December only by post, with reasons.

Particularity 2
Health costs are deductible above only 0.5% of income, against 5% at federal level, and premiums count up to twice the cantonal average premium for your age class.
Particularity 3
Childcare is deductible up to CHF 26'392 per child under 14 in 2026, among the highest cantonal caps in Switzerland.
