2026 is the first year you can buy back a Pillar 3a gap (2025). Pay the full 2026 contribution first, then buy in up to CHF 7'258 extra — both fully deductible. Requires a written application to your 3a foundation.

If your expenses are below ~40% of revenue, the flat-rate method (taux de dette fiscale nette) often saves money vs. effective method. Review annually.

What changes in 2026 in Vaud
The 2026 scales include a 5% cut of the cantonal base income tax. It does not apply to the scales for lump-sum pension payouts, and the cantonal coefficient stays at 155%.
Official figures and deadlines — Canton Vaud
Tax multiplier (canton and capital)
The cantonal coefficient is 155% and has not changed since 2021. Lausanne charges 78.5%.
Tax return filing deadline
The official deadline is 15 March, but Vaud tolerates filing up to 30 June without any request — you do not have to ask for it. That tolerance is what most self-employed people actually work with.
Deadline extension
Extensions are free. Ask by 15 May and you get 30 June; ask later and you get 30 September; in a case of force majeure, 31 October. The only cost is CHF 50 for the reminder (sommation) if you let the deadline pass.
What is specific to Vaud for the self-employed
Particularity 1
As a self-employed person you must attach a signed balance sheet and profit-and-loss account to your return, together with the Questionnaire pour indépendant.
Particularity 2
Vaud uses the quotient familial: your income is divided by parts (1.0 single, 1.8 married, 1.3 single parent, plus 0.5 per child) before the rate is applied. No other canton computes it this way.
Particularity 3
Insurance premiums are capped at CHF 9'900 married and CHF 5'000 single, plus CHF 1'300 per child; childcare at CHF 15'200 per child.
Particularity 4
Wealth tax only starts above CHF 60'000 for single and CHF 120'000 for married taxpayers.
