Pillar 3a buy-in for a missed year (new)
Max: CHF 7’258
2026 is the first year you can buy back a Pillar 3a gap (2025). Pay the full 2026 contribution first, then buy in up to CHF 7'258 extra — both fully deductible. Requires a written application to your 3a foundation.
Pillar 3a contribution (with 2nd pillar)
Max: CHF 7’258
Contribute the maximum to your Pillar 3a account before Dec 31. This amount is fully deductible from taxable income.
Pillar 3a contribution (without 2nd pillar)
Max: CHF 36’288
As a self-employed person without a 2nd pillar, you can contribute up to 20% of net income (capped). This is the single most impactful deduction.
Pay provisional AHV before year-end
No fixed cap
AHV/IV/EO contributions paid in the current year are deductible for that year. Ensure your provisional contributions are paid before Dec 31.
Immediate asset write-off
Max: CHF 1’000
Assets under CHF 1,000 can typically be expensed immediately. For larger items, use declining-balance depreciation (often 25-40% per year depending on asset class).
VAT method optimization
No fixed cap
If your expenses are below ~40% of revenue, the flat-rate method (taux de dette fiscale nette) often saves money vs. effective method. Review annually.
Requires VAT registration
Official figures and deadlines — Canton Jura
Tax multiplier (canton and capital)
Jura works with a quotité, a factor applied to the base tax: the canton keeps 2.85 for 2026 and Delémont 1.90, unchanged since 2016. Moutier appears in the 2026 list at 2.30 after joining the canton.
Tax return filing deadline
The filing deadline is 28 February — the earliest in Switzerland — and it is the same for employees and self-employed people, with no separate business date.
Deadline extension
An extension to 31 October costs CHF 31 and is granted only if you have no tax arrears; it is free if you hand the return in at your communal office before 30 June or upload it before 31 July. Missing the deadline costs CHF 42 for a reminder, CHF 63 for a formal notice and fines up to CHF 1'000.
What is specific to Jura for the self-employed
Particularity 1
Jura grants self-employed people a flat professional-expense allowance of 20% of income, capped at CHF 2'000 (art. 24 LI). Most cantons offer no forfait at all to the self-employed.
Particularity 2
The insurance-premium deduction is CHF 6'800 married and CHF 3'400 single, plus CHF 1'020 per child, and rises by CHF 790 if you contribute to neither a pension fund nor pillar 3a.
Particularity 3
A provision for research and development is allowed up to 10% of the commercial profit, capped at CHF 1'000'000. Wealth tax starts early, from CHF 58'000, and medical costs are deductible only above 5% of net income.
Particularity 4
Childcare is capped at CHF 10'600 per child under 14, one of the lower cantonal caps — about two and a half times below Graubünden's 2026 figure.
